Following the defeat of Marxist-Leninist groups in 1971, Sri Lanka committed to establishing rehabilitation centers aimed at reintegrating detainees and victims of violence into society. It is in this context that these two dolls were received during a visit by the ICRC to two political detainees, Illangakoon and Radeniya, in 1975. These dolls, poignant witnesses of this period in Sri Lanka's history, symbolize the humanitarian commitment of the Red Cross, which has been involved in initiatives to aid and support victims of armed conflicts. Through these dolls, the museum sheds light on the importance of humanitarian work in rebuilding lives and communities after periods of violence and conflict. Through these dolls, the museum highlights the importance of humanitarian work in rebuilding lives and communities after periods of violence and conflict.
