Iraqi Boat
Description
During the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) engaged in various humanitarian activities. These actions included visits to places of detention, assistance in exchanging Red Cross messages containing brief family news, repatriation of prisoners of war, and the return of mortal remains. Throughout the war, Iraq's maritime infrastructure and fleet suffered significant damage due to the intensity of the conflict and the strategic importance of maritime routes in the region. This magnificent wooden boat was made by an Iraqi prisoner of war in the Mehrabad camp in Tehran in August 1987. Constructed from pieces of metal, cables, bakelite, and equipped with an electrical connection to illuminate its interior, this boat bears witness to the ingenuity and creativity of individuals in such conflict situations.
