Opening hours

The Museum and Cafe HINIVUU are open from Tuesday to Sunday:

  • 10 am to 5 pm (1 November to 31 March)
  • 10 am to 6 pm (1 April to 31 October)
  • Every Thursday, the museum keeps its doors open until 8pm, and the café until 9pm. 

We’re closed on Mondays and on the following dates: 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January.

  • Combined Ticket (temporary* & permanent exhibitions) : CHF 15

 

Reduced-price admission

The following discounted prices apply to young visitors (12–22 years), visitors over the age of 65, people with disabilities, those currently not in employment, and members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement:

Family discount
One or two adults visiting with up to four children:

  • 25% discount on individual ticket prices

 

Free admission
Admission is free for children under 12, for ICOM, AMS and AMICR members, for press card holders, and for visitors with a Swiss Raiffeisen bank card.

Guided tours

Guided tours are available in French, German, Italian, English, Spanish, and Japanese, and must be booked at least 14 working days in advance.

  • Guided tour of the permanent exhibition: CHF 130 (in addition to the admission price; tours last for 60 minutes, max. 30 people per guide)

Requests to cancel or postpone guided tours must be made no later than 7 working days before the tour’s scheduled date.

The Museum is a great place to learn more about humanitarian action past and present together with your loved ones.

If you’re visiting our permanent exhibition, we have two special versions of our audio guide: one for children aged 8–12 years, and another for teenagers (both in French only).

Audioguide

The audioguide for the permanent exhibition can be rented for CHF 2 for adults*. It is available in nine languages: Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Arabic and Spanish.

We also have two special versions for younger visitors: one for children aged 8–12 years, and another for teenagers (both in French only).

*Adults from 23, senior citizens, ICRC / IFRC employees, Raifeissen, Geneva City Pass, STS, Passeport Loisirs, Pro Tourisme or Railaway beneficiaries.

Getting here

We encourage visitors to use green modes of transport. The Museum is located in Geneva’s international district, close to the ICRC and the United Nations and immediately adjacent to the Appia bus stop. There are also cycling lanes and paths nearby.

 

 

On foot

  • From Place des Nations, take a peaceful stroll through Parc de l’Ariana (approx. 10 minutes).
  • From Petit-Saconnex or Grand-Morillon, head along the vehicle-free Allée David-Morse.
  • From the Botanical Garden, exit towards Place des Nations and reach the Parc de l'Ariana (approx. 15 minutes); or exit towards the pond, walk uphill until you reach the Château de Penthes, then head downhill along Avenue de la Paix (approx. 30 minutes).

 

By bus

  • From Geneva Cornavin station, take bus 8 (Palexpo) or 20 (Valavran) or 60 or 61 express (towards Gex-L’Aiglette) and get off at the Appia stop. The 61 operates at peak times from Monday to Friday only.
  • From Geneva Airport, take bus 5 (towards Thônex-Vallard), get off at the Le Pommier stop, then take bus 22 (towards Jardin Botanique) and get off at the Appia stop.

 

By bike
Take the cycling path along Avenue de la Paix and leave your bike in the parking facility by the Museum entrance.

 

By car

  • From the centre of Geneva, follow signs for “Palais des Nations (ONU)”.
  • From the A1 motorway, take the Grand-Saconnex exit and head towards Geneva.

We recommend you leave your vehicle in the nearest car park, which is located at Place des Nations (approx. 10 minutes away on foot).

If you hold a disabled parking permit, we have one dedicated space in the service car park on Avenue Appia.


Lockers

The cloakroom is located near the reception on the ground floor of the Museum.

The largest lockers are 56 cm high, 45 cm wide and 52 cm deep. Unfortunately, we’re unable to accommodate bags that exceed these dimensions at this time.



Explore the Museum with friends or colleagues with a self-guided audio tour or a guided tour.You can treat yourself to a meal at the ICRC cafeteria or enjoy a picnic at the Museum.

You can even book a special guided tour for school groups to really make the most of your visit. And once the learning is done, you and your students can relax and enjoy a picnic in our gardens and public areas.

Services for visitors with disabilities

Visitors with reduced mobility

One parking space is reserved for people with reduced mobility.
It is located in the staff car park, avenue Appia.

The entire museum is accessible, including:

  • Reception, toilets
  • The café, gardens
  • The Atelier, conference rooms
  • The exhibitions by lift

At reception, you'll find:

  • A map of the museum
  • Two wheelchairs
  • Folding stools

You can inform the museum in advance of your visit.
So we can give you the best possible welcome.

 

Visitors with a visual impairment

Blind and/or partially sighted visitors can listen to a special tour of the permanent exhibition.

This tour is called an audio-described tour.

The tour lasts 1h30.
An audio guide explains the exhibition.

It describes the rooms, the objects, and features testimonies.

You can request it directly at the reception desk.

 

The museum works with the Souffleurs d'images network.
This service helps blind and partially-sighted people to visit exhibitions.
An image blower is a volunteer.
They describe what blind or partially-sighted people cannot see.
They provide information about the works.

Visitors with a hearing impairment
Hearing-impaired visitors with a hearing aid in the ‘T’ position can use a magnetic loop.
This helps you hear better during your visit. 
You can ask directly at the reception desk. 

 

Visitors with cognitive or learning impairments

The museum offers Relax tours of its exhibitions.
These allow you to visit with a qualified guide at a reduced rate. 
During the Relax tours, all kinds of reactions are welcome.
For example, you can :
- Laugh or speak loudly
- Ask questions
During Relax tours, the guide adapts to your needs.
For example, the guide may:
- Speak more slowly
- Take breaks

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum provides sensory bags.
These bags help people with special needs.
They allow you to visit the exhibitions independently and in peace.
They are available from reception.
Anyone can ask for one.
For example
- Children and adults with anxiety
- People with autism

What does a bag contain?
The bag is an easy-to-carry tote bag.
It contains :

  • A child-sized noise-cancelling headphone
  • An adult size noise-cancelling headphone
  • An anti-stress ball
  • Emotional cards to help you understand how you feel about the museum exhibitions
  • A map of the permanent exhibition, showing sensitive areas and quiet zones
  • A notebook with removable sheets and a pencil for taking notes
