As part of our Mental Health theme year, we invite the Centre for Competence in Humanitarian Negotiations (CCHN) to listen to an episode of their podcast "Frontline Negotiations". This will be followed by a conversation about managing pressure in humanitarian negotiations.

  • event accessible with the purchase of an entrance ticket

Together we will listen to the story of Ana Daza, a former Colombian videographer, who now works in difficult and high-pressure conflict situations among armed groups. She takes care of her mental health by cultivating her passion for art and relying on the support of her team.

This talk with Francesca Giulia Mereu, coach and organiser of retreats with humanitarians, and Maria Soledad Rueda, operations coordinator for the ICRC, will be moderated by Cecilia Suarez. You will be able to learn more about the tools used to develop resilience, to discuss the stigma of mental health in humanitarian work and above all the importance of a culture of care for professionals who are sometimes subjected to extreme conditions.

The podcast is in English, and the conversation that will follow will be in French.

The Competence Centre for Humanitarian Negotiation (CCHN) was founded in 2016 as a joint initiative of five humanitarian agencies: the International Committee of the Red Cross, Médecins Sans Frontières Switzerland, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations World Food Programme and the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue. Its aim is to facilitate the capture, analysis and sharing of experiences and practices around humanitarian negotiation and to provide a space for dialogue between organisations.

Francesca Giulia Mereu, an executive coach for over 25 years, has developed her own system to help leaders maintain both their performance and their well-being. She has published her approach in “Je recharge mes batteries” (editions Jouvence). She holds a degree in anthropology and sociology from the University of Lausanne, is a certified yoga teacher and practices Qigong, Brain Gym and mindfulness. Her approach addresses five dimensions: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social.

María Soledad Rueda is the ICRC's operations coordinator for the Near and Middle East. She has held several field positions, including head of operations in Ethiopia, coordinator of the response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and deputy head of the sub-delegation in Gaza. María Soledad Rueda received the prestigious 2022 Emerging Global Leader Award from the Harvard Kennedy School. This award is reserved for leaders whose groundbreaking work is changing the world.
