Utopian writing workshop and...

As part of his artist residency at the Museum, Marc Arthur Sohna invites you to take part in the creation of an imaginary, utopian community through a series of three workshops. Echoing his residency project, this programme explores the transformation of individual hopes and imaginations into a collective force, by imagining alternative ways of inhabiting the world.

Workshop programme

This workshop invites you to imagine alternative societies by creating utopian worlds.

You will start the activtiy with an introduction to the concept of radical utopia: imagining new worlds from the margins, from the perspective of those excluded from current systems. Drawing inspiration from figures such as Alice Carabédian, Ursula K. Le Guin and Audre Lorde, you will explore the various forms that utopian imaginations can take in narratives.

Afterwards, you will identify an issue in our contemporary societies that you wish to explore through a writing workshop. In small groups or individually, you will imagine your fictional community developing an alternative way of life: its values, rituals, rules and inventions.

Based on this universe, you will then create a central symbol specific to your community and transform it into a textile banner.

The workshop concludes with a moment of collective sharing, where each participant presents their universe in a few words, alongside their banner, creating a space for shared imaginaries.
