Artist residency 2026

From 03.03.2026 to 30.08.2026

Artist residency 2026

Each year, from March to August, the Museum hosts an artist-in-residence to explore a central question: “How does humanitarian action affect us all, here and now?” The residency is open to artists who trained at HEAD – Genève (Geneva University of Art and Design) – a school located in a city known as the global centre of humanitarianism – and is part of the Prix Art Humanité, an award focused on the relationship between art and humanitarian action.

During his residency, Marc-Arthur Sohna will lead a collaborative project inspired by Eshu, a deity in the Yoruba religion who acts as the guardian of crossroads and presides over choice. A unifying figure, he is said to transform individual hopes into shared strength. Visitors are invited to contribute by creating and decorating ceramic amulets expressing their own wishes, intentions and aspirations. The project will also feature moments of listening and storytelling, reflecting on the power of collective action. At the end of the residency, the amulets created by visitors will become part of a ritualized dance performance.

Through this participatory work, Marc-Arthur Sohna will explore how shared stories and collective action can spark a sense of common energy and open up new possibilities. His project is conceived as a call to action, seeking to rekindle hope amid the crises of the modern world.

About the artist

Marc-Arthur Sohna

Marc-Arthur Sohna, winner of the 11th Prix Art Humanité, is a French-Cameroonian designer and artist and a graduate of HEAD – Genève.

His work blends influences from African mythology and folk tales with science fiction and popular culture. The alternative worlds he creates, expressed through installations and performances, introduce characters from elsewhere, each telling new stories.

Reworking myths through a decolonial lens, Marc-Arthur Sohna reflects on the present and on the place of marginalized identities within it. For him, storytelling is a powerful tool – an act of resistance, a way of imagining different futures and providing a platform for the voiceless.
