Mapping My Way to Borderless Echoes

As part of the exhibition Angélica Serech – Pach’un Q’ijul, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum is presenting a special program centered on the work of the Guatemalan artist, featuring the first of three performances in the series Mapping My Way to….

'Mapping My Way to Borderless Echoes' explores personal and collective memory, forgetfulness, resiliency and humanity, themes that are addressed in the temporary exhibition as well as in the artistic practices of Ishita Chakraborty and Nina Emge.

The two artists are invited to take part in a performative and multifaceted dialogue,with each other, with Serech’s works, and with the audience, offering a fresh perspective on humanitarian values.

Programme:

  • 6:00 PM – Introduction of the artists by Elisa Rusca, curator of the exhibition.
  • 6:15 PM – Reading-performance in English by Ishita Chakraborty (approximately 20–30 minutes), followed by an exchange with the audience.
  • 7:00 PM – Live sound performance by Nina Emge (approximately 30 minutes)
Ishita Chakraborty

Ishita Chakraborty is an artist living and working between Möriken, Switzerland, and India. Represented by Gallery Espace in New Delhi and Galerie Peter Kilchmann in Zurich, she holds two MFAs, from the Zurich University of the Arts (2021) and Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata (2013).
She taught Fine Arts as an Assistant Professor at Amity University, Kolkata (2016–2018). Her work, featured in solo and group exhibitions internationally, including at Kunsthaus Zürich, Kunsthalle Charlottenborg, Galerie Peter Kilchmann, Aargauer Kunsthaus, among others, explores themes of memory, nature, and the human experience.

Recipient of several awards and residencies, including the Manor Prize (2024) and the Pro Helvetia Residency in Brazil (2024), she is actively engaged in artistic projects and international conferences.

Nina Emge

Nina Emge is a Zurich-based artist whose work explores the social dimensions of sound, voice, silence, and listening practices. Her research focuses on decentralization, collaborative working methods, and redistribution, themes that are reflected both in her installations and drawings, as well as in the processes behind her artistic production.

An active member of the Transnational Sound Initiative, Nina Emge has exhibited at the Lagos Biennial, Biennale Son Valais, WAF Vienna, Kunsthalle Zürich, Halle für Kunst Lüneburg, Kunsthalle Bern, Istituto Svizzero in Rome and Palermo, Frac Bretagne, the Swiss Cultural Center in Paris, Uferhallen Berlin, Kunstverein Braunschweig, Helmhaus Zürich, and other national and international institutions. She is also affiliated with the Art in Space and Time Chair at ETH Zurich.
