The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum provides sensory bags for people with special needs, to encourage all visitors to explore the exhibitions independently and with peace of mind. These bags are available free of charge at the reception desk, for anyone wishing to use them (children and adults alike, people with anxiety, autism spectrum disorders and/or attention deficit disorders, etc.).
What is in a bag?
It consists of a tote bag with :
- A child-sized noise-cancelling headphone
- An adult size noise-cancelling headphone
- An anti-stress ball
- Emotional cards to help you understand how you feel about the museum exhibitions
- A map of the permanent exhibition, showing sensitive areas and quiet zones
- A notebook with removable sheets and a pencil for taking notes
What is the purpose of a sensory bag?
For some people, the museum environment can provoke anxiety, incomprehension, over-stimulation of the senses, or on the contrary, not enough stimuli. The objects in the sensory bags help to reduce or awaken these stimuli, making the visit more enjoyable. Anyone wishing to borrow one of these can do so free of charge on presentation of an ID card.
